I disconnect the winch and leave the hard cable hook in place. I back it in, jump in the bed of the truck and lower the tail gate....unhook the hard cable....then start and reverse the boat. Very quick process. And safe.

I haven't launched in Texas, yet. But in Oregon if smart, you kept the safety chain on till the boat hit the water, or especially if a trailer had rollers, there was a risk of a change in momentum, like touching the brakes could send a boat off the trailer.
During the opener for Halibut season, it was not uncommon to hear the spin of the roller, followed by the crash of a nice boat on the concrete, and watching the poor fellow winching it back up.

Personally, only thing I disconnect is tie downs till boat is in water.

On the newer boats, the boat is 2 ft off the back of the trailer with the motor hanging in the air. I noticed my bouncing on the trailer so I leave mine hooked up until in the water. Rather be safe than trying to get boat of the concrete. Just takes a few seconds longer. Trying to get boat back on the trailer would make a u tube video and I sure do not want that. Quick as I can as fast as I can...

Can you believe that this happened to someone today while I was at the ramp? They had an older tracker and it slid right off the trailer as he started backing down. KEEP IT TIED UP!
