Any ideas on who to contact to remove a brick chimney from my home? I've considered a brick mason, chimney builder, general home builder, etc. Just not sure which "craft" to call.

Thanks!

Rent some tools and do it yourself, Tim Taylor style.

You will be shocked at how much brick you will have to haul off when you are finished. Taking it down was much easier than disposing of it.

I had a chimney company give me a quote for $1600 to remove and dispose of the brick from my chimney. It was about 7' high on the down side and 3'x3' approx. I ended up buying a brick chisel and a 4lb hammer and took it down myself brick by brick. Make sure and lay some plywood down around the chimney so that you don't end up damaging the surrounding shingles if one falls by accident!

Saw the above reply when I posted and YES I ended up with around 7 of the roll to the curb trashcans full of bricks!! But we have a debris disposal place here in town so a couple truck loads later was thru it with.

found the pics. brick was up as high as the metal pipe is. that pile of bricks was after filling the trash can and still had all those other rows of brick to take down.

Yep. We took down three brick planters in our yard. I knew it was going to be a lot of brick, but I had no idea how much I underestimated it. We hired Junk Kings to come in and get rid of it.

Call a couple Chimney sweep Companies. They probably know people that build them, maybe they would want the brick from yours.
Either pay you for it or do a swap where they take it down and they get to keep the brick for another project. Good fire brick is hard to find and not cheap.

You need a demo guy, roofer, framer and a painter. And if your in the city you may need a permit. General Contractor would be your best bet.

Why are you removing it?

We have two fireplaces and this one is in our master BR and has always leaked during major storms. Our other fireplace in the family room has been fine.

I'm tired of throwing money away on the leaking chimney...new flashing, built a cricket, and more.....no one has been able to repair it properly so it is coming down!
