Trying to decide if it makes a difference to insulate outside your living area when your attic is ventilated?

Vacuuming out all our old cellulose insulation that has basically turned to dust and going back with Roxul batts. When the house was built in the Stone Age they didnt spray any insulation over our covered deck or garage. Of course, those arent living areas. Trying to decide if its worth the money and time and will make much difference if we place the new insulation over those areas knowing the attic is ventilated anyways.

In other words, the attic is exposed to ambient air temps through the gable vents. - what difference would it make if I can keep a little temp from coming through the covered patio ceiling?

I insulated the garage of house in Roanoke for 2 reasons. First the company I worked for had a great deal with Owens Corning and 2nd the garage was on the west side. I did the whole thing not just attic. I know it did some good because garage was cooler.

It cost me about $400 to insulate over my front covered patio. Dont know if Ill ever see that money back from reduced energy cost or less wear and tear on my hvac units. I got tired of thinking about it and just made an executive decision while we are in remodel mode (again).

You know you are in the lower rung of the OT when you have to answer your own threads hmmm

It won't hurt.

Good talking point when you go to sell.

Patios open, roof is ventilated. The old fiber cellulose insulation (from 1983) I think had disintegrated over time and was nasty - our house always seemed to be dusty.

As weve remodeled, I turned to using Roxul and its made a noticeable difference. I just wondered if it mattered over a covered patio or eventuallly over our garage. My thinking is it should help temper the attic a little.

The Roxul batts are awesome. Once I close the ceiling in my master and have it buttoned up Ill have a good sense of our efforts. For the last week Ive been cooling the attic as I change electrical, add lights and windows, and suck up all the old insulation.

And No, Im not even going to try and figure out how to straighten up the photos. The imaging upload on our beloved TFF leaves much to be desired IMO.

Yes, insulate the ceiling and exterior walls in any air conditioned room.

I rotate the pics in photos before uploading them to TFF if they are sideways.
