Clay kills them everyday . Only the big ones are biting on shad . But the big shad are hard to find

Sand Bass and small stripers are schooling on top early, but they don't stay up long. As soon as they are up they go down. There are lots of schools popping up, but they don't stay up long enough to run over and fish them. Your best bet is to find fish on the surface and then track the school with electronics once they go under. They will surface again shortly. Don't waste your time trying to hop over to surfacing fish. You will only get frustrated, because they will disappear about the time you get over to them. They are feeding on tiny shad. When I say tiny I mean 1/2" - 3/4" long shad.
At Daybreak they are surfacing just outside of Harbor Master. After 30 minutes they go down and stay down. Then the action pics up between the island and the white cliffs.

Wednesday we boated over 100 fish Sand Bass/schoolie Striper mix. Friday a buddy went and caught 3 limits of Striper with the biggest 16lbs. I went back Sunday and caught 12 fish, 6 of which were keepers. The only difference I could find is boat traffic. And it's fishin roflmao

Monday and today caught a few stripers and sandies, they are on top feeding on shad just before day light till about 8:30.
They are tough to catch, jig spoons, silver rattle trap, umbrella rigs with swim fish.

I agree with Floydster. I will add that after they stop feeding on top we have been successful drifting live bait through the schools until they break up.
