I am looking at possibly going to Lake Hawkins for Labor Day weekend. We have never been to this lake. It doesn't look like the type of lake that would get a lot of recreation boat traffic. Right or wrong?
This lake appears to have a LOT of lily pads. Anyone had any luck with a frog?
Has anyone from outside the Hawkins area spent the night locally? Any recommendations?

There is a lot of recreational boat traffic on Hawkins on the main lake. Too much timber up on the north end, so that's where you'll want to fish. Lots of grass and pads on the north end as well.
I haven't been this season, but there's a good chance you'll see a gator or two up above the bridge.
As far as lodging, there's a nice RV part that also allows tent camping. Other than that, there's a small motel in Hawkins.
Really good Italian restaurant on the lake as well.

Have fished there once in the heat of August and did not have much luck. Watch for the million stumps on the N end. There is a boat lane marked...stay in it unless you are using the trolling motor and even then it is tough to get through.
