Went on scouting run today from 1 to 3:30 PM. I looked at shallow (12 to 16 fow) and deep (20 to 27 fow) structures to see which pattern was working. To my surprise both were working great. There were large concentrations of fish at Mid-lake Hump and Iron Wall Hump, where I used a #4 Mepps in 21 to 27 fow and caught fish almost every cast. Then I checked Key Ranch Drop-off and found good concentration of fish in 13 to 16 fow. Sat there and caught fish nearly every cast, but used a #2 Mepps. That is typically the baits that work best for those depths this time of year - 4's for deeper and 2's for shallower. I left Key Ranch Drop-off after catching 10 whites and checked out Key Ranch North, Old Pond Dam and Merimac Point, and they all had good concentrations in 13 to 17 fow - looking just like what I saw at key Ranch Drop-off. I didn't fish these last 3 spots but am sure it was catchable white bass. I ended up boating 45 sandies, 5 legal hybrids and 3 short hybrids.

Good to hear, Dennis. I will bring some #2 on A-Rig just in case the fish gets picky. See you in 9 days

Todd, if the deep pattern is working, that's what we'll do since #4's are easier to use and more likely to catch a hybrid deep. But, this time of year it's possible that we will only be able to find them shallow - hence, we need to be ready for both.

August is the hottest month of the year and the primed month for trollers cuz "fish don't bite". I read Dennis' story years ago this time of the year was when DC discovered the mepps technique from observing the trollers at Lake Livingston. Anyway, we got about 200 yrs of fishing, catching experiences on the boat on Friday the 10th. So I am pretty confident on the catching part

JJHaris: I hope ya'll ended up finding enough gas and catching a bunch. The marina situation here at Cedar Creek is poor at best. There were 5 marinas on the south end of the lake when I moved here in 1999, and now there is only one that I know of, and it only sells gas - no oil, drinks, ice, snacks, etc.

Mr Dennis we found some gas up the lake by the bridge. We caught a few fish on some spots using your map and some help from Eric on here. Thanks for the help Eric and Mr Dennis.

There are several places on CC you can get gas. Causeway, Lonestar, fishermans wharf and Long cove. Also two Restaurants, Tiki Hut and Boondocks.
2 Bedroom Lake house on CC for rent. P.M. me!

Went out Wed, Thur and yesterday and found 2 consistent patterns (when after the rain stops): Shallow (10 to 17 fow)main lake humps,drop-offs and points using Mepps 2's and 4's and deeper (20 to 27 FOW) humps using 4's. Fish are bunched up along the bottom. In the deeper water I caught several legal hybrids in addition to the white bass.
After 3 months of trying to figure out what was making my 90HP Yamaha outboard sluggish and use twice as much gas, and after replacing the water pump, stator, spark plugs, fuel filter and power pack, I finally replaced the part that was causing the problem - the fuel pump. The boat now runs like new. Apparently the diaphragm was bad, and there is a port in the fuel pump that lets it discharge gas into the crankcase and get vented out with the exhaust. In hindsight it seems like the fuel pump is one of the things that should have been changed first. The mechanic I use kept thinking it was not getting spark to #3 cylinder, hence the electrical component changes. At least I saved the old power pack and stator since they are expensive and are likely still good. Maybe this info will help some of you in the future.
