still a learning process for me,but I think I read a couple of different posts on here how several people were using either a 2.5",2" bait, but as of late are now downsizing. guess it just depends on what lake you are fishing and what they want and how they want it from day to day. Hope this helps.

Here in the northeast, the water temperature has averaged above 83 degrees which some say affect what panfish will strike. I've found it doesn't matter and it does depend on the water, quality of fish in it, cover, etc. I've been tinkering with soft plastics for a few years and keep coming up with more designs that all species bite, experimenting with lure size. Of course when you're talking panfish, pretty much anything goes as long as the lure isn't too large. But when your talking about down south panfish and bass, you can automatically increase lure size as long as lure shape and action fit the bill. Crappie over 12" are aggressive when it comes to large lures and may strike some bass size lures such as this fish caught on a 4" swimbait: Crappie and bass hit this 2 3/4" tube with a Joker Grub tail attached: This sunnie and a crappie hit a 4" Kut Tail Worm: But as with any lures I use in summer when fish won't chase lures, light jigheads are IMO very necessary in order for the lure's subtle action to provoke fish to strike; and for that to happen, the lure must be in the strike zone longer. 1/32 oz jigs with hook size to match bait size, can make a big difference. 1/16 oz may also do well on certain days especially using longer lures, but I have been doing well with 1/32 and 1/24 oz ballhead jigs on average. Leader # test may be important in order to allow the lure the most freedom to move just right. I've been using 4 and 6# test fluorocarbon attached to 8# test braid. When I was stationed in Texas in 1970, I didn't know what a crappie was. Sure wish I knew then what I know now.
