My son and I might be heading to Falcon in October and we've never been there before.
What suggestions would you offer a couple of novice fishermen?
Appreciate all helpful information you would provide!
Have a great day!

That time of year look for shad and you will find the fish.

if you are able, you might want to check into getting a guide to show you around. If not, you can talk to the guys up at the tackle shop, they are really helpful and can point you in the right direction

Safety first--keep a close eye on the wind forecast with the Windfinder app or something similar. Keep a close watch on any nearby lightning with the Weather Bug app "Spark" lightning strike proximity feature.
Falcon is one of those places that has hypnotizing beauty; you can get so zoned in on fishing that a storm or strong wind shift could easily sneak up on you.
Been out on Falcon on a pleasantly calm day with no visual clues of a storm coming and just two hours later, a strong north wind (about 25mph) blew in. The resulting waves and strength of current were impressive. Falcon has these long rocky points that really whipped the current and waves into a frenzy. Glad I had stayed close to shore and close to the ramp (The Windfinder app had predicted a weather change, so I stayed close to safety).

I've had the exact same thing happen and I was blown away (no pun intended) at how rough it got when the wind picked up, I've been on plenty of big water and never seen anything like that before.

Wow on the quick replies with great information! Much appreciated!
I've actually been reading reports from James on his Falcon Lake Tackle website. Tons of good tips on there and his smart mouth makes me laugh. Really looking forward to meeting him.
I've had some experiences with those fast rising winds on Lake Meade and Lake Powell. Had to spend the night on Lake Meade one time when a storm blew in because we couldn't get back to the ramp that was only 4 miles away.
