Shimano will never get another dime of my money. I've purchased a couple over the years and acquired several others. Had a Shimano reel fail in a tournament too. None performed as well as my older model Abu's (or newer models) or my Quantums.

With as much man love for Shimano in this thread I almost thought it was the saltwater/inshore forum!

They have been time tested. In JDM products. For years. It's only "new" for the states. Or at least the technology is time tested. The actual model numbers are new.

Im a daiwa guy through and through but I picked up a few scorpion DCs last month in Tokyo...I will be getting more

I have 16 Lews reels of all different models that I have bought used on here over the last few years, all of them still work great. I decided to start sending them in so they continue to work well.
None of the 16 were bought new. I like them so much I got rid of all my other reels.

Im sure the "acquired" reels were just that some that someone didn't take care of.

Tell us the story of "failing" in a tournament. I guess I've fished about as hard as most and full time for a few years and have never had a reel just all out fail that didn't give you indications of an issues WAY before (of any brand). Would like to hear the story.

I have Shimano Daiwa Abu and Lews. Im not brand loyal (after all theyre not paying me to use them) and I like things about all of them. My all time favorite is a Chronarch 50 MG. Wish theyd never stopped making them. Of the newer reels I really like the Lews Hyper Mag a lot.

I have typically been a Shimano guy but Lately Lews and 13 Fishing have won me over. I love 13 Fishkng Concept Z and A in that 200 dollar price point. 22 pounds of drag f has been great getting big bass out of cover.

Well I just got two Shimano Curado K reels. One of them is super smooth and the other had problems right out of the box. Something is binding up in it. I will have to get it looked at or return it to the seller.

Spend $40 more and get a Lew's Team Pro Mag 7:1.

On sale at TW or wait until the Labor Day Sale coming, might get an additional 10-15% off

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Tea...scpage-ACB.html

The Lew's Team Pro series are very nice reels for the price.

If you have some money left over, you can check out the Bass Pro Qualifier reels. I keep a few around with various line sizes and have been happy with them.

UPDATE: I took the reel apart and reassembled it and now both of them are super smooth. I haven't fished with either one yet but I have been casting them and they are awesome. Shimano did good with this one.
