Small things can add up sometimes. Often we know small things can help us catch more fish but
are too much trouble to mess with. Things like using a leader or not.
I have found that while a leader can make a difference I still can catch a lot without it.

Scent or nuggets. Maybe a big difference occasionally but usually not so much.

Lure modifications. Might make a small difference at times.

Individually these are small things most of the time but think about the difference in winning a tournament and finishing second, normally less than 10% and usually less than that.
If each modification you make only adds 5% to your catch it might make you the winner instead of the first loser.

Here is a modification that we have been having good success with, adding glitter and color/scent to soft baits.

Available at Walmart, extra fine glitter and garlic scented dip-it.
I usually dip first and then roll the bait in the glitter on a paper towel, let dry and most of the glitter will stay on. To make it stay on even better I place the baits in a vacuum seal bag and seal it. This presses the glitter into the soft plastic and it stays on really well.

My friend Pete showed me this trick. He thinks a lot.

Don't worry Don, there's plenty of fish to share.

Well the dip it is fine for coloring the bait but won't hold the glitter on very well.
Best luck so far is to stick a toothpick in the bait and roll the body in a drop of superglue then roll it in the glitter.

Latest update:
While the superglue worked it made the bait stiff and hard.

Tried using PVC cement. Worked great. Thin the PVC cement glue with MEK (Thinner) about 1/3 thinner & 2/3 glue. Hold the tail of the bait and dip in the glue and the roll in the glitter. I sprinkle a thin layer of glitter on a paper towel and roll the bait on it. Bait holds the glitter well and is still soft.

So far this works best.

We are getting about 20% more bites on the baits with glitter added, even if the baits have glitter in them.

Another hint: Some times baits come with a crooked tail from being bent when packaged. To straighten the tails simply put the baits in a pan of water and heat to almost boiling for a couple of min. Remove baits to cold water and let cool. Tails usually straighten out perfectly. This also seems to enhance any scents already in the bait.

Sometimes the little things make a BIG difference!
As far as glitter goes, I've been using a Tinkerbell jig head by Mad Crappie Jigs...
Not sure if it's the glitter or the eyes, but I can put the same bait on a pink jig head and the bite all but stops noidea

Thanks for that information, had a friend show me the difference in my bait and his the other day. Same baits but his bag had more oblong specks and my specks were round. He caught more than me so was that the difference?
