Noticed gear oil on skeg. Removed prop to find what appears to be gear oil leaking from around prop shaft seals. Changing those not a problem. Question is....is it common for the gear oil leak to be coming from the o-ring that is on the bearing carrier? I assume a pressure test is the only way to be sure of the leak source??

Pressure test it. Easy to do, and it will let you know for sure the source. You sure it is not unburned 2 stroke oil from exhaust?

Best way is have it pressure tested before and after repair.

Unrelated to your original question but with that motor, replace your oil check valve if you haven't already. Apparently a known problem. I was having all sorts of trouble with my 94 200 efi. New oil check valve fixed it up. Cost $15 and installed in less than 5 minutes

TF2F.....I assume you are talking about the 2psi crankcase check valve that sends pressure to the large remote oil tank thereby forcing oil from the large remote tank to the small tank under the cowling? Or that what I think you are saying. I have not changed it. But from what I read it is a common (and low cost) item that should be changed BEFORE it acts up. ??
