My ole' "Ball Coach" buddy Mike has been wanting to learn how to catch crappie on jigs. Well, today I invited him out to the classroom since he will be busy with two-a-days starting shortly. We hit the lake at daylight and the bite was slow but steady for the first hour. The bite picked up at around 7:30 then slowed way down at about 9. We ended the day at 11:00 with 29. Pattern hasn't changed much. Fish are on brush in 15-20FOW and suspended at 12'. A variety of jigs worked today. I tied on a Berkley 2" Power Bait Minnow for Mike and I used a variety of jigs as I am a tinkerer, especially when it is slow. Did have a little more success with a rubber legged bat head jig from MCM Tackle. I think I may like this head for swimming the jig over and through brush piles.
Columbus took a chance and he made it.
