I’m looking to take a half day guided trip out on Lake Whitney in early November. Does anyone know if the bite is any good out there that time of year? I’m considering Randy Routh, Pat Small, or Clay Yadon. Are these good options or is there someone else I should consider? I’m open fishing with bait, but mainly want to put fish in the boat for my 3 separate friends getting married this fall as a wedding gift. I’d really like to have some top water fishing for some of the trip if it is at all possible that time of year. Just don’t want to be putting rods in rod holders but being able to set the hook!

All three are good choices. Depends on how you want to fish. Randy is a trolling/ artificial bait guy. Clay and Pat are live bait guys. I would say that any of the three are great choices. They will show you a good time and put you on the fish. I’ve never seen any of them come back with less than a limit.

Actually I do it all. Chunk and wind, live bait, cut bait, Down rig, stroll. If you can think of a legal means to catch linesiders I do it. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I fished with Pat Small last September. He's the only guide I've used on Whitney and I would highly recommend him. He was about as easy going as they come and fun to talk fishing with. I remember him saying on that September trip that he does quite a bit of top water fishing starting early to mid October.

I have fished with both Clay Yadon and Pat Small. I would fish with either again in a heartbeat. But, my first choice would be to call Yadon and tell him what you actually what you want to do, keeping in mind that 4 guys in a boat is really a full load. You will catch fish with either. I am pretty sure any of the professional guides working Lake Whitney will earn the money they get paid as well as teach you some things about fishing. I have my own boat and fish Whitney a lot but I still charter a guide a couple of times a year to see what the professionals are doing and it's fun to let someone else do all that work occasionally.

Like I said you won’t make a bad choice with any of the three. I’ll add that if any of them need an extra boat for more fisherman to contact me. I’d be happy to team up with them to help out. I don’t guide but I’m on Whitney at least 3-4 days a week and I have room for a few extra folks if they need an extra boat for a large group.

Dan Swindell, Big D Guide Service. Works his butt off and is a great guy to be stuck on the boat with for a few hours.

I've fished with Randy Routh (HighTech Redneck) & would most definitely recommend him.
