Had a once every 4 year kind of day with absolutely no responsibilities yesterday. Kids at grandparents for the week and wife away on a conference so I took full advantage and fished for 12 hours. Started at Belton for the sunrise bite. I had planned on catching smallmouth for an hour or so and then running upriver to search for crappie. Needless to say the Bass were not cooperating and I could not find any crappie hiding anywhere. This lake is all new to me so I tried to find some kind of pattern with no luck. After 6 hours I tossed in the hat with only 1 perch and 1 undersized hybrid.

In the back of mind, while waiting for the Thump I so badly needed, I kept thinking I should have gone to Granger. I fish there often and have several brush piles and know the lake pretty well. No one waiting for me at home so I loaded the boat, quick boat wash, coffee and gas stop and I was on my way to Granger. Stopped in for a burger at Lois and Jerry's in Bartlett on the way and prepared for round 2.

104 degrees on the thermometer when I arrived at the ramp. South wind at 10-12 miles an hour and light boat traffic. First pile had a keeper on the second drop and then things slowed down. Took me the rest of the afternoon to pick up 7 more. All in all a fun day but put in a lot of work for very few fish. Best fish came on small 1.5 inch plastics. The heat has slowed things down for me but ready to go again!

I know the feeling, I was out there 2 weeks ago. Me and my brother in law fish Granger occasionally due to the close proximity of it, but I find it a frustrating lake. Typical trips usually go, catch 45-50 crappie but only end up with 6-7 keepers. That lake is full of dinks that never seem to grow. The action is nice...I mean, I’d rather catch dinks all day rather than nothing at all. Thanks for posting, good to know it’s not just us, haha!
