Lavon has been ok last few weeks. Been averaging 30-45 keepers on most trips with another 50-100 throwbacks. My best quality has been on deeper timber 17-21’ fishing 12-17’ deep. Its a slower on numbers but better on quality. When we are not jumping tree to tree the typical submerged timbber/brush piles in 12-17’ have been good for numbers. My best stuff has been 12-14’ and most fish are right on the bottom.
May be 1 here and 2 there and hope you stumble on a couple spots holding 5-10 keepers. I did catch fish this week as shallow as 7’ of water but did not fish enough of it to say its a pattern yet. I have not used minnows much yet on Lavon but its getting time where a piece of minnow will help. I did have a young girl this week and I cut minnows in small pieces and put on a bare jig and she did better than we did on a straight jig. Once water hits 88 degrees on Lavon a piece of cut bait really helps on numbers. Morning is better one day then the evening the next. Just typical summer time fishing. As always white/Chartreuse is my go to color but We did well on the Mr.Crappie Shadpole in smokey shad this week on cloudy days.

Fished Fork yesterday with a gentleman and his 10 year old son and we smashed them. Started at 7:00 am and had 50 keepers before 11:00 am. Standing timber and submerged stumps in 19-25’ water fishing 12-15’ deep. Fish really bit good and had the normal 10-15 really good fish up to 1.75#. White/Chartreuse jigs tipped with a minnow dead or cut made a big difference. I tried a smokey shad and could not get bit even with the minnow. If you missed one and dropped it down with no minnow you were lucky to get bit. Add a piece of minnow and catch one. Im about catching fish and not too proud to use a minnow. I know some do not but my experience says always on Fork does it help.
Im reading about downsizing baits but I had a customer last week using a 3.5” bait with a big minnow on and he caught the best fish we caught. I notice cleaning these fish that there are 3-5” Shad in them so I do believe they are eating small fry but not only small fry. When they are biting they are biting, when they are not you just have to fish slow and hope you hit one in the head.
If your interested in a trip on Fork or Lavon give me a call. Lets go catch some!
