Maybe yall know about my new gig. Ive got a ninety day gig managing a big campus network.

Well my first full day was yesterday, first half meeting with the two man staff, their CFO and my boss who is now inserted as IT Manager. Second half was just me and the guys, a golf cart tour of the campus IT facilitates followed up by several hours in the main lab.

I came away knowing stuff I didnt expect.

The current guy has 10+ years on the job but has the skills of a trainee. To put it kindly, he is a BS artist.

Late in the day, I mentioned that I was a Navy man. Dude immediately told me he was a 20 year retired CPO with a fire control rating. He talked about serving on a Battleship! Hes much younger than me. My GENERAL QUARTERS alarm was banging away in my head but I let it pass.

Last night after a few beers and deepthink I did a little digging. Every link I can find that might point to him has a security block on it. He has no public internet profile.

My boss already knew this but didnt mention it until I bought it up. Were not even sure we know his real name.

This could get interesting fast.

Quit being a busybody it is not illegal to claim to be a veteran. Are you chief of secutiy? Do you have the power to fire a 10year employee based on your never fail meter?

"That's so cool - do you have any old photos of you during service in some of those places you served in? I like looking through old military pics"

I've yet to meet a veteran who doesn't have a few old photos of himself in uniform at various duty stations.

I would be careful when you try to show someone up that has been able to BS their way through their career, that can backfire really quick.

If he can make his internet profile disappear, he can make you disappear.

I would just leave it alone, do my job, collect my money and roll out. Who cares.

Well actually yes, yes it is. Obviously you never served. This epidemic actually means something to everybody who has ever put on a uniform. It is so bad now that the second I see anybody wearing their veteran, SEAL, ranger, etc) hat & bling I cant help but to think they are a poser

USS Wisconsin, BB-64, was last decommissioned in September 1991. I think that was the last one.

But the guy may be using the term battleship in a slightly different way.
