Replaced my in hull transducer and have y cable with my side imaging transducer.

Issue is I really only need in Hull when on plane. When idling the side imaging transducer gives much better sonar.

The thru Hull will mark the bottom but nothing else. It never lost the bottom even when running river channel at Amistad. But I could be sitting over grass and never see it on sonar.

I would disconnect y cable and connect side imaging transducer directly to bird and suddenly I have grasss and fish on screen.

Any options besides picking which one is more important to me at the time?

Would like to have depth reading while on plane but take advantage of the side imaging transducer when not on plane.

Have 1198c at console.

When utilizing an in-hull transducer and "Y" cable your 2D and depth are dedicated to the in-hull transducer.

I rely on my charts to tell me my depth and utilize the 2D sonar in the SI transducer.

The quality of sonar with a shoot-thru is only as good as the installation and hull condition. Properly installed there is very little signal loss.

How well did the shoot-thru perform during testing BEFORE it was bonded to the hull?

For an in-hull transducer to operate correctly, you must be down to the last layer of fiberglass/gelcoat before attaching. The thicker the glass it has to transmit and receive thru, the weaker the return.

My Gambler has an inner and outer hull. You have to drill thru the inner hull and remove some of the outer hull to get the best results.
