He also dodged military service in WW2, unlike many of his fellow actors.

Really ???? He was turned down for military service because of a shoulder he wrecked playing Football. He lost his scholarship and dropped out of college......... Why would some one who was 6'4" tall wear lifts?? Check your facts before making statements that make you look silly.

In 1944, Wayne received a 2-A classification, �deferred in support of [the] national � interest.� A month later the Selective Service decided to revoke many previous deferments and reclassified him 1-A. But Wayne�s studio appealed and got his 2-A status reinstated until after the war ended.

Some people who knew Wayne (including his wife Pilar) say he felt bad about not having served. Some think his guilty conscience was one reason he became such a super patriot later. The fact remains that the man who came to symbolize American patriotism and pride had a chance to do more than just act the part, and he let it pass.
