I had the day to myself yesterday so I thought I would head out to Ray Roberts for a while. I wasn't in a big hurry so took my time in the morning and arrive at the ramp about 9 AM. Put in and started fishing near the ramp. I was about 20 minutes into it when I got tangled up in some old fishing line. While I was fixing that mess my boat started drifting back into a bridge piling. So, I kicked up the trolling motor to about 70% to move away. The BAM! I was thinking that was really loud. But, I didn't hit anything. It is sound like someone shot the boat or something.

I notice I wasn't getting power on the TM. So, I looked in the battery compartment to find one of the batteries blew apart. Well, that explained the boom. At least it didn't damage anything else or cause a bigger issue. I put the boat back on the trailer and headed back to Walmart by the house which is 20 miles away. I figured if they have another battery in stock I can head back to the lake or just put up the boat if not.

Once I got to Walmart I saw they had plenty of batteries on stock. I decide to replace one of the other batteries too since it was the same age. I buy the new batteries and take out to the boat and put them on the back deck. As I am removing the old batteries I notice a puddle under one of the new batteries. I didnt remember sitting it on a water bottle Then, I release that batteries acid is pouring out of the bottom of one of the new batteries. Ugh!

I get the leaking battery in to the shopping cart and wheel it back into the store with the old cores. By now, acid is dripping on the floor. The associate is a little unnerved by this and runs and gets a big bag of baking soda. In hindsight, I should have left it outside. Anyway, I grab the soda from him and run out to my boat and dump it all over the back deck. Now I have a fizzing foaming back deck. I run back in and get 2 gallon jugs of water and dump it on the mess to dilute and try to clean some of it off.

By the time I get everything back together its after noon so I decide to just call it a day and watch fishing instead.

I wont know how to act if something doesnt break when I head out to the lake next. Last week I had a flat my trailer on the way out to Fork. The trip before that my review mirror decided to come unglued from the windshield. bang

Sounds like Fun!

I have a story that beats that one. One day about 25 yrs ago I had a battery catch on fire in my boat on Lake Monticello. Of course it is burning right next to a plastic fuel tank with 25 gals of gas! Good times!

Some days it just doesn't pay to get outta bed!

Sorry for the bad luck Barn. I would imagine the carpet replacement will be next. Nylon in the carpet doesn't like acid. Hope you caught it in time.

My batteries are next one of the fuel tanks. I was glad that nothing happened to it.

Probably so. I should have went straight to the car wash. I'll find out soon enough, I guess.
