"The Harlequin" - or as close as I can tie it anyway...

I've wanted to tie this fly since the first time I saw the pattern. Unfortunately, it is still above my skill level and this attempt has problems. But, I still kind of proud of it, faults and all. smile

I've always considered the classic salmon flies to be works of art. Beautiful!!

Salmon flies... big ugly gawdy affairs resembling nothing in nature. Thrown at passing river monsters who have no desire to eat anything and wont.

I think it just makes them mad and they attack.

Thats a beaut by the way. It kinda makes me want to smash it. I dont know why...

Thanks for the comments. This was a fun pattern to tie.

It is definitely NOT a subtle color scheme. roflmao

I just started reading The Feather Thief so seeing some locally tied salmon flies is pretty cool. I am only about a third of the way through the book but it really good so far.

I've heard that book is good. I need to get a copy. It is definitely a wild story.

Surprisingly, the DFW area has quiet a few salmon fly tyers including a couple of world class level folks. Some of them are usually tying with the "Roadkill Roundtable" Saturday mornings at the Bass Pro by the airport.
