I was there late Wednesday. Fished behind the bridge in the pads and caught a couple before the fireworks show started. I'm still shell shocked.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

....just like any other lake .....
some catch em' ---- some don't
Just because it is ATHENS does not mean you will come out and catch fish.
right now these fish have a lot of NATURAL food --- they are very finicky on what they will eat ......

I’m going to let the fish out of the basket so to speak. This information is for everyone. Hope I don’t take a beating. Use 7’ heavy action rod with high speed real spooled with 65lb braid, 5/0 screw lock hook, and 3 bags of “BLACK” Zoom horny toads. Fish the green grass on the banks all the way to 15’ outside the weed line. Have not had one blow up around Lilly pads in last 5 weekend trips, so stay clear. Must be a wind blown bank. Stronger the wind the more violent the bite. RE-CAP. South wind blown bank. Black zoom horny toad. Have a blast all day. Repeat all day. If no wind then refer to comments above. PS. Launch no later than 5:30 AM.

or throw a white and chartreuse SUGAR BUZZ over those same grass beds
or a weightless Mardi Gras Fluke
or a light Texas rigged WM-Gold flake Baby Brush Hog
just make sure you are fishing the grass beds -- not the lilly pads
