Suzuki Samurai. A lot of guys like them as 4X4's because of the short wheelbase. They have a lot of articulation in them and are hard to get stuck.

Very popular in Central America and South East Asia.
Probably the cheapest 4X4 you could buy at the time.

Samurai and the Geo Tracker - not a big engine but they would get in some tight places.

My wife thought they were cute and ideal for her short trips so I bought a Samuri when they were first introduced. Fun to drive but also at the same time I was looking at buying a boat. Looked at one in a dealership that had a 150 Suzuki outboard and if I remember correctly that engine had about 50 more horsepower than was available in the Samuri. Boat would probably have had a higher top end speed also.

They are still made and sold worldwide.

I had one for a weekend test drive back in the early 90s. Wouldn't go more than 60 mph and my girlfriend at the time wouldn't ride in it because she felt unsafe, yet had no problems being on the back of my motorcycle.

I think some of the trackers and Geo cars had a 3 cylinder motor lol. A buddy bought one of the convertible cars, got a tear in it and it was over half the new price of the car to have it replaced.

I think the Suzy was a 4 cylinder, but like a 1.1 or 1.3.

Have a 1987 that I found 17 years ago. Great hunting vehicle. Tough as nails and ride rough off road. Only thing that has ever stopped it was a 40 foot long four foot deep snow drift. Looked like a post turtle with all four wheels spinning in the air after a hold my beer and watch this moment!
