After finding a new way to past the time fishing. I found carp in Yellow House Draw below canyon lake 6 in both canyon lake 1& 6, Maxey park, Leroy Elmore, and the playa near the house. I know that locals might scream on the names of locations, but call Google earth. The carp as a hole are not overly large most less than 20 inches, over the holidays did manage to catch a few between wildfires. I caught a few, early in the morning on the shallow flats in Maxey park. One noticeable issue; was the stress on the fish. The first fish fought well, but as removed the hook it went limp, did not revive well, and floated a long while, then the egrets/ cormorants found it. Next one was small less than 15 inches and revived slow as well. Moved over Leroy Elmore and caught two small one on the same type of flat, I keep them in the water and both swam away. The water temp. is warm to the touch and dark bottoms. The two carp photos are Leroy and the pond Maxey park. The playa near house has few carp, but a lot of bullheads, they were biting on any bait favor. I land one carp at 23 inches and the wife two at 18-20.

Nice post and fish. Good job. You never have enough places to fish. Always a good thing to find new water bodies. thumb

You are fishing the same places that I did 35 years ago.

Nice fish, shame that one of them didn't make it. One option for reducing stress on the fish is increasing the strength of your gear. Having too light of tackle makes the fish expend quite a bit more energy. I always try to revive them for a bit and push them towards deeper water, it seems to do the trick pretty well.

Of course it probably doesn't matter for the smaller ones, but if you support your phone/camera with both hands and brace your arms against your body or a stationary object, the photos will come out a lot clearer. That way, when you get a giant you'll have a really good photo to remember him by.

Catch and release. The dream - to catch one of every species of Freshwater fish in our great state! If only I can resist Carp...
