Never had a speedo work for more than a few months without cleaning the pitot tube. GPS speed much more accurate, anyway.

GPS is what most look at, but the darn thing should work, just hard to keep the junk out of that little hole.

When mine stops working I disconnect the tube from the speedometer and use my air compressor to blow the junk out of the tube and the little hole. This is a never ending problem though, a GPS or a speedometer app on a smart phone is the way to go.

The fact that they are notoriously inaccurate make them only good for a very rough estimate of speed at best. I blocked off my speedo tube and replaced the gauge with a more useful tachometer. Re-purposed the hose for a water pressure gauge which was infinitely more useful.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Put a GPS speedometer in the boat.....works AND it's accurate.
