I took the kayak and fly rods out to Lake Placid on Friday. I ended up catching a bunch of small bluegill, a couple warmouth, a green sunfish, a few redbreast, a couple crappie, a couple bass, a couple longear and 6 big Rios. I didn't catch near as many redbreast as I did on Dunlap or McQueeney for some reason. Once again, the only fish over half pound were the Rios. All 6 that I caught were over 1/2 pound. The biggest was 9.75 inches.

I caught very few fish on top water flies. The majority of the fish were caught on a popper dropper rig. A Llano bug / crawfish briminator combination. All of the Rios were caught on the crawfish briminator. Crawfish / dark rust colored flies have been the most consistent color for me on the Guadalupe lakes.

Good job Jamie fishing Placid! Placid can be a very difficult lake to fish. I could only imagine fishing that lake with a fly rod. Nice fish. thumb

Side Note: What Records did you set on Placid? hmmm

Thanks Fitz, Pot Licker and Chuck.

Chuck, I set the Rio Fly records for weight and catch & release. I set the fly rod crappie record as well.

I was going to try Meadow Lake on Saturday morning. I looked on google and found Nolte Island but when I showed up there I found out it was closed and only available to be reserved by private parties.

There is an R.V. park off of FM 123 in Seguine that has a ramp to launch onto Meadow Lake. I think the cost is either five or ten dollars. You paid at the office and if the office was closed you put your money in the door slot. It has been awhile since I have fished Meadow and things may have changed. I do know that the office has a phone number and is usually open from 10am till 5pm.

Side Note: You Sir are having one "HECK" of a "RECORD" year! Congratulations on three more records and the first fly rod records for Lake Placid. rockon

If you like catching some "BIG" fish head back up river from the I-10 ramp. There are some nice holes with deeper water that hold some BIG Catfish and Gar. They can take a kayak for a ride. woot
