If theyre in grapevine theyll be everywhere else. A centrally located lake that gets tons of traffic, of course its going to spread.

Im not sure where you get your information that the fisheries are improving and not saying i disagree with you! From what i have read about them they stick to all kinds of stuff like water intakes and filter tons of water clearing it up and allowing more grass to grow deeper in lakes which improves the bass fishing unfortunately lakes were not built for bass fishing they were built for water storage to treat and sell to us to consume and they couldnt care less about how good that lake bass fishes they hate grass and anything else that causes them to dip into their profits

Add Lake Bridgeport to the list of lakes with them and now the fishing has improved dramatically.

I think if TPWD would just stick to stocking lakes and not worrying so much about zebra muscles and certain invasive aquatic vegetation our lakes and fisheries would be much better off.

Is it due to improved water clarity or new food source or what?

Yes sir. Bought a boat from Lewisville to move to EML this year. Zebra mussels was a big concern from F/G during that process.

Probably safe to assume theyre in every lake, on some level.

In the State of California , if they find quagga mussels , they close the lake FOREVER .
And , if your boat is registered in a County that has a lake that is found to have the quagga mussel , they
quarantine your boat from any lake outside of the county your registered in .
It happened in San Justo Lake ( close to Hollister , Ca. ) .
In addition , the water districts now complain that they don't have enough money to do boat inspections so now 80% of the lakes in Santa Clara county no longer accept boating ---at all .

I just got in from a long trip so don't feel like looking it up but you can google it and find. There have been studies done on lakes up North that have had the mussels longer and the effects on the fish population. They found that between helping to clear the water and providing some species a new food source that the fish populations have grown. I don't think they have been down here long enough for any studies to have been made on them. As far as the pipes and everything for the water companies to pump water from the lake and their effects on the infrastructure, there are now materials that they can replace them with that the mussels don't attach themselves to and can prevent the damage that was caused by them before.

It seems the lakes get a huge growth of them and there is a negative impact for a short period then the water starts to clear and the food chain takes off and their numbers decrease somewhat. With the flooding we had not long ago I would be suprised if most of the lakes don't already have a small population of them started anywhere South of Lewisville.

Once they're there....they're there. I guess we'll see if they help or not.

How many years does it take for them to make any impact?
