Looking at retirement after first of year. Wife just spent week with her old high school girlfriends on Cedar Creek Lake. She really liked the place. Now she's suggesting we move up there on lake for retirement. I don't know the area that well, any pointers or information appreciated.

Lots of million dollar homes on CC, lots of junk surrounding the lake. Hire a good realtor and let them find what you want. CC is a big recreation lake with good fishing for crappie, white bass, hybrid bass and blacks. Catfish are good as well, lots of docks and brush piles. Good luck with your search.

The attraction for us to move here was lower cost lakefront living, both in home cost and property taxes. As the previous poster pointed out, do your homework. Remember that the lake is almost 18 miles long, so that encompasses a lot of neighborhoods.

Money is flowing in here at an increasing rate, so the days of any home on Cedar Creek being a sketchy investment are in the past. The trashy areas around the public launching ramps should be avoided.

We are in the County with a Eustace address on the South East corner of the lake and we love it. The big thing for us: Not having to drive through trashy ghetto stuff to get to our home! Athens is about the same distance as Gun Barrel City for shopping and services – including a great hospital if needed. Homes in my neighborhood are $275K to $650K. Ours is near the lower end of the range for 2400 sq ft, 2/3 acre, boat dock and my own launching ramp.

But then, the West side has some beautiful places with a whole different feel - and some folks would only consider buying there. Nice place for sale right now for $3 million, if that is in your range.

Marc

Thanks for the information. Unless the lottery comes through, I'll have yo pass on that 3 million$ place. But I'll bet it's nice.

Be sure and check the taxes and yearly utility costs on any property you are interested in. Some districts are very high.

Call Courtney at McAtee realty, she’ll find something in your price range.
