Appears to be Drum, but like you said, pics are hard to make a positive ID .

Are Drum brown though? I really wish I had a polarized lens. I couldn�t figure out what kind of fish it was. Don�t know if you can see but there are spines going through the tail. This fish had a brown color, was working the the rocks and sand feeding on something. I have a short video that I�ll try and attach. Quality still isn�t that great.

color and shape are right for a buffalo, carp are slimmer & lighter color

The first fish is a Freshwater Drum, I see them all the time in such shallow water that their backs are poking out. The second is a Buffalo of some type, if I had to guess I'd say a Smallmouth as they're typically the most common. Both fish are a ton of fun to catch!
