Taking a week off to chase cats, bought some chicken thighs and trying to pick up some dead red? Any thoughts or input? Usually use chicken hearts, worms, or shrimp. Will be on Palestine then Tawakoni.
Thanks in advance.....

Welcome!
welcome
I use chicken thighs and drumsticks raw most times I go out as part of my bait rotation-
I have caught blues and small flatheads with both-
There have been times I have used the dead red but I have honestly caught more fish using them raw-
Also Ive had the same results using deadred on Shad and perch though-
But bottom line these baits can produce and its a cheap easy bait to have a better opportunity to catch a fish-
Also in the winter when Shad are more difficult to get there is that-

Right out of the package works for me-
I feel like the foul scent appeals to the fish instincts that eat baby ducks or eat baby birds that fall out of nest of birds that roost above water-
Ive seen pics on this site where a guy cleaning a big old blue cat finds a grown duck in its belly-

I think the soured or flavored chicken appeals more to channel cat -
Im sure it has happened, but Ive not caught channels in fresh or frozen thighs, drumsticks or breast-

I have a curiosity question. I see lots of threads addressing bait soaked in Dead Red. My question is: why not soak leather in Dead Red if Dead Red is the key ingredient to getting catfish to bite? Leather would be more absorbing, would hold the scent, and would not get nibbled off. Just saying...

To be honest I only use the dead red to refresh baits when Im low on it-
After using it off and on for several years I really dont see the increase in bites when using it against fresh bait no matter what the bait is-
Others may think different but thats just what I have come to the conclusion of-
I admit Ive never used it like you are saying, but hey if anyone has and it works I wouldnt call BS on it-just my
