One of my Neighbors from Allen came up to Pk with his son for the day. The main reason was to meet with an ex Navy fighter pilot who might be able to help with his Naval Academy application. While he was here we decided to go on the lake and do a little fishing. He'd never really been fishing before. He'd caught some little perch back in the city but this was a first for him. I caught some nice Shad thanks to a tip by Kerry Dugan ( thanks) and the fun started.
Took him a little while to get the hang of it. Initially, he tried to hog these fish in and they broke off on him. When he got his first striper to the surface he was shocked and yelled to his dad " on my gosh, look at the size of my fish"!
This one had the look of a Hybrid. It was very thick with a thick tail and strange stripes. It was nice to sit in the shade of this dock but we lost a few to the cables. I've installed a Bimini top and it helps but dock shade is the best especially with these 100 deg days.
We ended the day one shy of a limit. Guess if I'd have coached him a little better at the beginning he'd have landed one of the earlier ones and got a limit. He was still pretty happy, as I don't think he knew how many a limit was. We ended the day with four stripers, two blue cats and a throwback LM bass. Didn't pull the blue cats out for the pic, as they had gotten into something that smelled up the cooler. My fishing buddy Jimmy was glad to get them. I look at catfish like raw oysters. I wont eat them but don't care if other people do.
