I'm experiencing the same deal. Using a Bass Pro Cranking Stick with 10lb fluro. I swear I am losing 75% of the fish I hook. I Was using an Abu Veritas Wrench with the same line and didn't lose any. That rod broke and I am fed up with the Veritas so I decided on the Cranking Stick. Like others suggest, maybe a better hook set is the key instead of just reeling them in.

If you are fishing shallow cranks no need to use light line. Also as said before triple grips do not have enough bite for fish 7 plus pounds. Try a hook with a little more flex. I have learned that they don't tear out as easy as they flex but stay hooked up. These double strength hooks are a gimmic and only relevant for fishing offshore with heavy braid. Your bass fishing not hauling in 50 pound kingfish. I don't care if a hook comes in looking like a grappling hook as long as it didn't let the fish get off. When you bend these hooks back Leave points slightly flared out, your hookup ratio will improve.

12 lb flourocarbon might help. You may be getting too much stretch with the mono. I use flouro now and then but I lose a lot more baits with it, seems to break a lot easier than mono Try McCoys mean green. It is a copolymer line and very good for cranking.

Ive switched to the owner stingers short shank st-35. Has the 150 degree opening for all my cranks, lipless, and squarebills. Haven't lost a big one yet

Heavier flouro and bigger round bend hooks. I like the owner st-35s or the 41s like jaret said. Your problems will go away. Its definitely not associated with the bait itself. I've caught hundreds on the exact bait.
I can backlash toilet paper.

I use lucky craft skt mag 105 for a bit shallow and 110 for deeper. I fish them right out of the box. Having said that I dont think its your bait like said above. I have caught some really big fish on these with mostly braid or occ mono. I was using a softer rod with braid and a bit stiffer rod with mono. 50-55lb braid, 17-25lb mono. Fluoro around 20lb I imagine would also do well. Most of those were when the water was cold so they dont fight as hard- now in hot water they are gonna slam that thing and give you a crazy fight- not going to get them all in-no pain no gain. My biggest fish on that 105 killed that bait like I have never felt before and was hooked by one single part of the back treble in the grizzle of the lower lip- just lucky that time. I believe a long accurate cast is often needed for real big ones- need to have right tackle and hook set and powerful enough tackle to bury that hook in the maw and get the head turned and the fight going your way quickly.

Might want to listen to this man fellas. He's landed six fish over 13 and at least two over 15 on big cranks.

Everyone has different setups that suit them best. Just gotta find what works best for you. I throw squarebills on an old 7'3 kvd rod I paid $99 for on sale. Are there better blanks on the market, of course. But I'm so used to the setup I never lose fish on it. I know how it responds to grass, stumps, etc.
