Do you guys use the Lucky SKT DR 120's much in Texas lakes? Them things are plenty big enough at 3 1/4 ounce. Yes sir, I've caught three pounders on Fork on the Barfish color. I had quite a few of them until a month or so ago when I sold 18 to a guy in California that really wanted them. I kept 9-10 of them thinking I may start using them but they are just too big for lakes I fish in East TN. It is like chunking a Croc shoe with hooks on it.

When the fish jumps, do you see the bait?
Its about 50/50. Some of the bigger ones the bait is completely out of sight and then I watch it come out as if there wasnt even a hook on my bait. A couple 7-8 pounders this has happened

I will agree with the wrong hooks. I use the VMC O'Shaugnessy Treble hook for my CBs. Short shank, wide open. The round bend hooks have much more gripping power than the triple grip cooks. I cannot tell you how many BIG fish I have lost of the triple grip hooks. KVD may like them, but I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! They do not give a big fish enough to get hooked on. These cooks are cheaper, too. SHORT SHANK WIDE GAP COOKS is the best way to go, IMHO. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck. ALSO, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BACK YOUR DRAG OFF SO A 3 LB BASS CAN PULL A LITTLE DRAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. MOST people set their drag too tightly on CBs, because they have TREBLE hooks on them, well, those small treble hooks pull out more easily than other hooks, so back your drag off. Hope this helps.

I can be short and to the point if need be, but I CAN go on to describe something if you want. LOL on me. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I have zero experience with the giants, but with quality 3-5s I was losing a bunch in similar ways. I went to a little lighter tip and consciously eased up on the fight. Let them think they were winning and take my time. My landing ratio increased dramatically. I think it decreased hooks pulling out and for sure decreased the head shakers. I usually throw 15 flouro or 15 big game. Not sure if Ive noticed a difference on losing fish between the 2 lines.

Im thinking your not burying the hooks into the fish with the right line. Try what Fouz said I use the 8.0 from strike king allot and almost always use 15-20lb floro and a MH 7.5ft cranking rod

Heavy line and bigger triple grip hooks. Long crankbait rod with backbone for a big crankbait. Sweep your hookset dont jerk and keep the rod low. I also try to get the fish to the boat as fast as possible without pumping the rod. Pumping action many times gives just enough slack in line to let hooks loosen.

12 lb flourocarbon might help. You may be getting too much stretch with the mono. I use flouro now and then but I lose a lot more baits with it, seems to break a lot easier than mono

Its about 50/50. Some of the bigger ones the bait is completely out of sight and then I watch it come out as if there wasnt even a hook on my bait. A couple 7-8 pounders this has happened Welcome to the club. If you figure that out, let me know. The only thing that's worked for me was to keep them from jumping, and to keep as much of an angle on the fish as possible so when they do jump and the bait comes out, there's a chance it will catch a hook in it's mouth as it's flying out. You'll see what I'm talking about the first time you net a big one and when you open it's mouth the crankbait comes right out, never had a hook in it.
