Were going to head to Toledo Bend around the 5th of July. First trip there and not sure where to put in or try to fish. Not looking for spots, just a general idea of a decent/safe place to stay and park a boat. Motel or cabins dont matter. It will be me, my wife, and out son.

Any tips on general areas to fish would be appreciated. Tips on what works there would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance. Mgfan58

Fin and feather is nice and close to good fishing. Make sure and idle when out of the boat lanes.

Fin and Feather is a good choice. If youve never been here its in Housen which is always a good place to fish. Close to Six Mile and Indian Mounds as well. Thats enough to fill up a week.

Thanks for the info. I bought the boat lanes chips for Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Fork, and Lake of the Pines. Already repaired a skeg after getting a little out of the boat lanes at Granbury. Im very cautious now. Weve been to Fork a couple of times, as well as me fishing Monticello a lot back in the 80s, So I have a big respect for stumps.

Thanks again.

I stayed at Harbor Light Marina & Resort once and really liked it. Palo Gaucho creek is a huge creek and protected from the south wind. Watch out for gators if you fish behind the bridge though. they have cabins and a motel and lots of amenities.

For most part Toledo is fishing tough. You can catch a bunch out in the main creek in the bends with a drop shot though. Just dink city

Booked a place at Harbor Light for the 4th through the 7th. Probably fish that area mostly and make at least one trip to the Indian Mounds area. It looks like the lake is really laid out well with boat lanes so making the trip shouldnt be bad. I had no idea it was as deep as it in along the Sabine. Thanks again for the recommendations. Well let me be the first to say the boat lanes are laid out well in theory. On the Texas side they may or may not be where they are supposed to be. Running out of Palo Gaucho to the main lake there is a hard 90 left then right, the buoys are there, just hard to see at times. Be safe.

I read a article that said to be really careful on the single boat lanes, as the wind will blow it to the side, and the lanes are only 30 to 60 yards wide. They said to be sure and stay on the side the wind is blowing from to be safe. I noticed there are some hard turns in the lanes. Im a 30 to 40 mph boater on places I dont know well or have stumps. Ya the single lanes on Louisiana side are narrow but they don't drift much. Take your time if it's rough, floaters can pop up anytime out there

Were staying at Harborlight. May just trailer down lake if we decide the fishing isnt geed enough where were at. It will depend on the wind. I have a bad back and getting beat up in a boat isnt any fun.

Hope you're enjoying your stay there since I recommended it. We caught fish off just about every point in Palo Gaucho including the main lake points that had lots of grass on them.

There are some deepwater spots where you hit the mainlake. And some more straight across on the LA side.

Im sure the stay will be fine so no worries. Were there for the lake and not the ambiance of the room, but the photos look pretty nice. Mind if I ask what you were using? I love to throw blade baits, bizzbaits, and Texas rig worms, My son loves frog fishing. Weve both decided were going to hit the shallows early then move deeper than we normally do. We have a habit of beating the shores to death, even when were not doing any good, and weve got to break that habit. Just got back into bass fishing after being away since the mid 80s. Things have changed a little, bit the old stuff still works.

And thanks for the tips about the spots across on the LA side. Does a Texas license work anywhere on the lake?

Typical stuff Mgfan, early morning Fluke's, Pop R's and Zara Spooks, later Tx rigged pumpkin/green craws, C-rigged pumpkin/green worms. Finding hydrilla was key.

From the looks of it, we better take our rain gear. Supposed to start on Tuesday and rain for almost a week. Still better than being at work. Mgfan58
