The kayakers were out quite a bit this am on LL at least two of them were in green/camo boats and wearing dark clothes. Dont you know that against a green background you are practically invisible. No close shaves.
,but it was a little uncomfortable how close I was before I saw you and I was only going 35. Get an orange flag.
The same goes for float tube guy but at least you were around bridge pilings.

I hear you. I've noticed this too on LL. It's especially bad around dawn or dusk. I always try to slow down and give them plenty of room, but I've gotten closer than I care to a couple of times when I didn't see them from a distance. I worry about hitting one so I try to keep an eye out but the flag thing should be mandatory.

I use a flag on Lewisville. All major lakes actually. Not so much on ponds, where they are no powered boats.

But I wont yak fish Lewisville from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Just too dangerous flag or not. Too many drunks. The fishing boats are not too bad out there but those ones with the towers of speakers and pulling people, blasting music etc.

Ski boats? They are all jerks, do not give you any space, and are just in general a menace.

This is why I wear brightly colored shirts (bright yellow, bright orange, etc) when kayaking, as my kayak is blue & doesn't stand out at a distance.

I just try to ignor them,
How much damage could a kayak possibly do to a boat?

The worst one was at the mouth of cottonwood and there is about 200 big boats in that Marina. It was like he was deer hunting he was so blended in.

Possibly. Was the lady wearing a gold brooch on her left wrist and big sparkly earrings?

Brave souls taking on the main lake during the summer on metromess inner city lakes in a yak... Very difficult to see if there is much of a breeze blowing too, especially before 9am. If it were me in the yak I'd have a flag and be wearing safety yellow or orange shirt and hat.

The real question is how much damage can my lawyer do to your bank account if you hit me in my kayak? bolt

Agree that we kayakers sometimes are our own worst enemies. I am primarily a river kayak angler, and I avoid the big popular lakes in the summertime altogether. But if I do hit a public lake, I will be wearing neon yellow everything.

Want to encounter some authentic morons? Head to the coast.
ONE narrow cut between back lakes, only way in or out. They'll blockade the cut and act like you're killing baby seals if you try to use it. Arghhh

It was a guy in a Majek Redfish Line about twenty minutes prior just before the tide flushed out of Fifth lake going into Contee. I was watching the mud spray of him coming out like his tail was on fire, I was quite impressed, he slid out more than he powered out.

He knew he was a gonner, if it had been sand instead of poot mud, he'd still be stuck there.

Also...
If you didn't know about the Texas Water Safari, it is a canoe/kayak/paddle race from San Marcos to Seadrift.
Winning time this year was a blistering 39 hours. Think about that for a minute. All day, all night, all day.

I've seen some really dedicated competitive people before, but never on the scale of these people. One old dude was on his 50th race. Once just to say you're looney enough to do it, and I'd still be impressed. 50? you need meds.

And to those not familiar with flats/tunnels/ultra shallow running.
Water does not compress. You might think your boat needs a foot of water to operate in, but when you get really shallow, like four or five inches, your boat literally lifts up and you're still going. If you're running a tunnel hull, you're good until you suck the water out of the tunnel, then brother you are going to be stuck like Chuck.

My jet takes a whole lot less water to operate in, we can scoot through 2" all day, and usually go about a hundred yards in 1" before I finally cavitate down, but that's usually more than enough to get back into ankle deep and keep going.

What's the minimum depth that boat of yours needs to get up and going from a standstill?

If I've got someone with me that can sit on the front while I spin it out, 3" in mud, 4" in sand. Little more if I'm by myself.

I'f I'm a really long way from 4" I can step off and pull it into me and hammer it, but getting a little too old and fat for that trick. Dang boat will leave me if I keep that one up. And a jet doesn't have prop torque, so it'll just go in whatever direction it was pointed.

Should have seen the dude on the blowup pool raft 200 yards from shore and in 190' of water yesterday on Table Rock.

He was moving pretty good with his dive flippers though.

Pat... How much for a weekend in Seadrift? I'll need some time off with the next 2 weeks of work coming up.
