Pretty much the exact same deal has last week.. actually the exact same way point which is very rare on Canyon. Ran out of live perch by 10:30am and called it a day. Spot lock over 70ft of water and drop them down too the bottom!

The bigger the better. Hand size ones work very well usually.

They work great! Any size will work.. If I have one die I just cut the head off and send the head back down. That catches them too.

Hey Steven, Finally got me a fishing boat and ready to start chasing stripers. Is there a certain part of the lake they seem to be hanging out at? Are you launching at ramp 23 off Cranes Mill? Thanks.

I like using smaller perch or no larger than the size of my palm. I feel that I have better hook ups and more takers with the smaller perch. But that's just me.

Sometimes I have one pole in the back of the boat with a large perch on for the larger fish. On those rods, I leave the drag loose so that the fish can run with it a bit. I feel that it helps the fish to get the bait down which will help with a better hook up.
Again, that's just me...

I still launch at 23 but Fishing more mid lake. Deeper water. Not saying there arent any around the cranes mill area, I just havent fished that area much since spring. Mid lake too the dam is working best for me now.

Thanks Steven, I was thinking their summer pattern is more toward the dam with the deeper water. So you aren't having any luck slabbing or any other artificials?

It depends, when they are on the surface anything works, sometimes I can make them bite a slab when they are on the bottom, but live perch is working the best. They arent always on the surface.

Nice pics as usual. I follow your posts pretty regular . I live about an hour from there. So how do you go about your usual rig for live perch. Drop shot, slip sinker ,hook size?? Got a pic?
