I usually dont fish on weekends but went today. Lake was rough. Trolled some with no hits. Boat was hard to control.went and caught Shad. Caught three hybrids near Poverty Point in 22 foot of water. Lost one to trolling motor. Had several hits that just killed the bait and didnt take it. I gave up about 11 am. Try again another day when its not so windy.

I wondered why there were so many boats out today. Saw a friend of mine fishing in the creek. He said he was fishing in a catfish tournament.

I hate ppl on weekends lol! Thats why I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and fish during the week I didnt know they did catfishing tournaments out there. Sorry you didnt tear them up today. That lake can be challenging due to wind and the north to south layout of the lake. Be cool if they started a hybrid tournament!

Hey Cody! Sounds like you did a lot right and covered a lot of productive areas. One of my sweet spots is poverty point going into the spillway area. It makes a slight point/hump right there where it will be 14-17 fow and dip down deeper. Active fish get ontop of that 14-17 fow hump/point and I can tear them up placing my downriggers just a few feet higher then bottom. When the fish are deeper then 18 feet or so I can watch my downrigger go right over them with no bites. I finally learned thats when shad comes in handy if you can spot lock over them. But the fish up shallow are easy pickings and I often catch multiple fish each pass This observation for the last four years has taught me to focus shallow if using artificials because they just seem much more active and willing to be tricked into artificials.
Ppl seem to troll and downrigg a lot differently then I do. I literally keep my trolling motor in the water and go over the top of that hump with downriggers down and big motor driving. As soon as I go over that hump with big motor I steer the nose of my 24 foot seaark back around with my smart trolling motor remote and make another tight pass essentially mowing that area and tightly attacking that 100 yard area. I chose to do this over casting because I can control the depth and watch the fishes response on sonar and cover lots of water quickly.
Not sure if you know about that area or not but if you dont its worth keeping a close eye on next time youre out! Its one of my faithful warm water spots and youll see a lot of that spot in my recent videos.
