Estes Park, CO is very nice and up in the Rocky Mountain area. great scenery and history Yup, im about 45 minutes from there.

Four better check before you go. I was told today by a friend that lives in Lake City that they were going to close down all of the San Juan National forest and limit access to homes in rural areas.
He was calling me to let me know this because we usually leave about July 1 for a long stay.
You might want to check before you go.
Wont be any aspens changing in August. Mid September to early October.
Also as far as charred mountains there are hundreds of thousands of acres that are untouched so if the forest is open it will be nice unless you are staying right in a burned area.

I have pics on my phone from last Sept 21st and the aspens were all yellow at that time.
