They are great for cleaning up a pond and an excellent source of forage for the lake. We used a bluegill hook and a split shot weight about 8-10” up. Slowly drag it on the bottom and just wait to feel a little weight then boom. It was great fun and no telling how many were in the school. We literally sat on the edge of the dock in one spot for 8 hours. This was in an 8 acre lake for reference.

Yes, they will eat catfish food. Feed and a big seine net will capture lots of them quickly. If the tilapia numbers are a problem, stock more adult largemouth. It'll be extremely difficult to remove all of the tilapia from the pond, if that is your goal, without draining it.

LBJ has a power plant on it. They go up the discharge during cold weather.

I guess they know exactly where that is from miles away each year. It's hard for me to believe they know where that tiny discharge is at that time of year.

It's a clean white fish, but that's also wild caught. I've never eaten the farm raised like you'll find in a restaurant. The Sysco farm raised catfish is about the same....

It's like filleting a huge perch with scales like a redfish.

If you wanted to catch them on trot lines, what bait would you use?

Cheese?

Magic catfish bait?

They primarily feed on Vegetation, worms, insects. They will hit lures but not something you can target. I'd think live worms would be best option

It only takes a few to randomly find it for the population to survive. They're more prolific than bluegill and reproduce throughout the summer.

Ya it's more than a "few". I found 1 small creek with about 25-30 3-4lbers spawning in late April. A longggggg way from the "discharge"
