How is Aquilla in regards to the bass population? How would you all rate this lake? I live close and have never fished it......

Fished last Thurs/Fri/Sat at Aquilla, each morning from about 6-11. Fishing was decent thurs and friday. I think we caught 11 thurs (biggest about 6.5 lbs), 19 on friday biggest about 5.5 lbs.. Sunday was a grind (i think there was a tourny on sat) but we caught 8 - nothing big.

I have tried over the years, but I no longer consider Aquilla a bass lake. Most people go there for the catfish or crappie. I have caught lots of sand bass there, but the LM bass fishing is tough. And I've had some of the 5-6 lb fish mentioned above, but they are few.

BlueSkeeter - I somewhat agree. However, our best 5 Friday was close to 20lbs and prob 18lbs on thursday.

Why has Tpwd not stocked it since 1985? Fished it when it opened til about 1992 was really good then crashed. Maybe Ill try again soon.

It fishes smaller than it should. Can usually catch a few good ones but not a lot of bites most days. Crappie and sand bass fiahing is great.

I was told the lake is due an electro-fishing survey next year to determine is it needs to be re-stocked with largemouth, I thinks it way beyond due. It has the ingredients for big fish and no doubt there are a few in there but I catch way fewer bass there than other lakes in the area, crappie population seems to be doing well.
