I’ve got the 52. Wouldn’t want it any shorter. I can fish off the back deck of my boat without the shaft coming out of the water on the front.

ZX225 and I got the 52 just because I knew i could be out in more wind now which means bigger waves. Nice to fish out of the back while its pointed into the wind. Only draw back is the boat cover doesn't fit as well now.

Have a 52 on Ranger 521c. Had 4 in cut off and it seems perfect.

I like the motor head to set low, I fish shallow most of the time, when I do fish deeper in rougher water I have not had a problem with the 45 inch Ultrex, I actually think it sits lower in the water than my 45 inch four trex did, I fish out of a 21 Triton TRX, I think some boats sit nose high so a 52 may be better for them.

I ran 45" for years, but my Ultrex is a 52" and I love it. Toledo and Rayburn get rough and keeping the 45 in the water is hard to do when it gets rough.

I'm amazed that there are two pages devoted to only three sizes of shaft for the Ultrex. IMO, one post should have taken care of this.

Well lets make it four pages...
I have a 17 FX21 with 52” ultrex and the 45” would be an issue in rough water... 52” all day

If you’re wrong on the 45, then you have prop out of the water. If you are wrong on the 52, you just got a little more if you need it. Btw, on the 52, the collar takes up about 3 inches and therefore it really is only about a 49. I have the 52 and wouldn’t want any shorter.

I really think it depends on the boat that you run, I used to always run a 52 that was not a foot control, now a 45 foot control does just fine, hell get a 60 so there is no doubt, if some is good then more is better.

I got a 60" then had it cut down to 50". Perfect.

I did the same thing. When I bought my Ultrex the dealer told me there was only one 60" in North Ameria and no 52"s. They were scarce for sure. I cut mine down to 50ish" and it's just right for my 21" Triton. Some boats bow and deck sit lower so it's varies on how long the TM shaft should be if you want it perfect. It's not hard at all to cut these shafts down if you're careful. There could be warranty issues but I doubt they would make an issue of it if you did it right. I would go with the 52" if you fish off shore at all and if you find it to long well, fix it!

they make a 45 inch and 52 inch and 60 inch. 52 inch is good for most bass boats. I am about to install the 52 inch Ultrex. I was just out this weekend on Tawakoni with a Fortrex 45 and it was out of the water quite a lot in fishing off shore. Good luck
