Came in off the pond. Fell asleep...woke up its 80 degrees in the house. Air coming thru duct...so there is power to fan. Airs not cold... The blades on the unit outside not turning.

Fortunately it will be in the sixties tonight and the upstairs unit is working.

Capacitor?

If the fan outside is not running you most likely need a new capacitor.

It's possible just the breaker tripped too so check that first. If it's fine then it's probably the capacitor. Cheap and easy do it yourself fix.

Try using a stick to push blades and see if it will turn for a bit. If so definitely capacitor. But either way capacitor is likely the problem.

Could also be the motor that turns the fan.

If the compressor is running but the fan is not, you can take a box fan and lay it flat on top of the outside unit. It will move a little air in place of the regular fan and may give you a little relieve until you fix it.

the cap is used to start the fan spinning. If it is bad, many times you can tell by using a stick to spin the fan, if it starts working, it will continue until the house is satisfied and the compressors cycle off.

usually if it's the capacitor, you can check to see if it's swollen on top.

I have a pretty new unit that stopped cooling a couple weeks ago but I quickly realized the issue was the drain was stopped up so the safety float was engaged to shut off the unit to avoid flooding in the attic. It was draining some just too slow. I removed the float and put a pan under it until the Tech got there to use the CO2 gun to clear the drain. They showed me this when they installed the system fortunately I remembered that part. I was 2 days from them coming to do the normal checkup so he just did the whole thing while he was there at nearly 9:00 pm and yeah I paid for an off hours call hammer

Biden famously said in the New York Observer, “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
