Awesome fish! I fished some McKinney ponds earlier and the fish were very active but all my fish combined didnt weigh 14.4. Congrats to Caden!
Edit: I think I recognize the pond and noticed a car parked there when I was picking which pond to fish in. If thats the pond I think it is, that corner right there with the tree is usually productive.

Congrats. I knew some of those ponds would have good fish in them. That size is beyond what I thought. Would like to be able to fish some of them. Way I grew up fishing.

By my estimation, that fish is 28" / 29" long which would put it well in the range of 14.4
Nice fish!

I received a text from his dad in which we work together. Caden doesnt care about personal gratification on stardom from a fish, he just likes to fish. Caden has a scholarship to pitch in college in Colorado next year. He is not small although the bass seems to make him look that way. He caught an 11 lb. bass last month in Oklahoma as well. Perhaps we will see him in the majors pitching someday...but for now we will remember him as that kid who caught a super donkey from a McKinney pond!

Thats a big fish. The kids elbows are bent, he isnt having a 7# kiss the camera by holding way out in front he is holding it the right way and sometimes the camera doesnt do big fish justice.

My opinion doesn't matter, but that fish does have a huge girth.

I guess we need to start a finger measurement poll. Measuring across my four fingers flat on a desk I get 2.8 inches. If I angle my hand slightly so that it's not flat on the desk I get 2.5 inches.

You got small hands! Nope, can you palm a basketball? I measured across between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle, since that's the area in contact with the fish.

It's a big fish. If I were to guess without having saw the weight I would have put it near 11-12, but if he's a large lad it could go 14 no problem.

Who cares if its actually 14 lbs. Call Bassmaster about their two pages in every magazine that show guys from up north holding a 6lber that they say is an 11. Go catch your own, weigh it on certified scales, etc.
To me, its more amazing that he caught it in that pond. That pond will now be hit harder than Fork this weekend.

I don't personally care whos hands are bigger. Ive seen a lot of big fish in my days. Including a few 13's and a 15. That fish is not 14. And I would tell that to the kid straight....... But Id also tell him thats an awesome fish, not just for a pond but any lake in general. He should be proud of it for sure! So congrats to him on that!

I would have to reluctantly agree with Sinkey, I'm sitting here looking at a 14.19 I caught at Fork and the fish the kid is holding up frankly doesn't come close. Having said that it's an awesome fish and one to be proud of and congrats on releasing it. Also I want to wish him the best on his college career. Best of everything young man.

I know what a 28"-29" Bass looks like because I caught one in June several years ago. Mine weighed in at 10.50lbs and looked plenty healthy so those charts don't mean squat to me. One thing I can tell you is that is NOT a 29" Bass and it is NOT 14 pounds. I don't call BS too often on weights posted here because pics can be deceiving, but in this case I feel very comfortable calling BS. But hey......fish stories are fun so who am I to criticize the kids catch. Nice fish!

Yep. Why even post a pic of your fish. You are going to be roasted for it. I thought it was a great looking fish that I wish I had caught.

I'm the guy who says one cannot accurately discern the weight of a fish from a photo. I've proved it right here by posting photos of a 12.5 and a 14.67. Very few people even got close. That said, I will agree the fish in the OP is nowhere near 14 lbs. She has a 14lb head but she has a slack gut which translates to a low girth measurement. And she looks to be about 26" in length. I'd say the fish weighs around 11 -12 lbs. And I'm not calling anyone a liar nor belittling the success enjoyed by that young man. Helluva fish young man!

If you go with 3" = 21" / If you go with 3-1/2" = 24.5" I would go with the 3-1/2" @ 24.5" which according to the chart makes it around 9.12#'s The real question is, how many people measured their hands while reading this thread?

Ha! I compared it to several that I have caught and held the same way and it looks 9.5 to 10 IMO. Good fish though.

I guess someone on TFF needs to go catch her again and take video of it being weighed on a certified scale. Any volunteers to go catch her?

To those questioning the weight of the fish. I think its key to note that the kid was using a hand held scale, and depending on the brand, those things can be off by 3 to sometimes 4 pounds more or less. In my opinion, with this being said, its probably a 10 pounder. No doubt the kid read 14.4 with a hand held, but my questioning would be the validity of the scale. Cut him some slack. STILL A GREAT FISH. CONGRATS TO HIM
