measure across 4 of your fingers like the kid is showing holding the fish (roughly 3.5") .... now measure the fish in the picture, that fish is actually a little on the skinny side for it's length ... I measure 29" .....easy 14.4

I guess we need to start a finger measurement poll. Measuring across my four fingers flat on a desk I get 2.8 inches. If I angle my hand slightly so that it's not flat on the desk I get 2.5 inches.

You got small hands!

Nope, can you palm a basketball?

I measured across between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle, since that's the area in contact with the fish.

It's a big fish. If I were to guess without having saw the weight I would have put it near 11-12, but if he's a large lad it could go 14 no problem.

Who cares if its actually 14 lbs. Call Bassmaster about their two pages in every magazine that show guys from up north holding a 6lber that they say is an 11. Go catch your own, weigh it on certified scales, etc.

To me, its more amazing that he caught it in that pond. That pond will now be hit harder than Fork this weekend.

Looks to be a case of younger vs older hands.

I don't personally care whos hands are bigger. Ive seen a lot of big fish in my days. Including a few 13's and a 15. That fish is not 14. And I would tell that to the kid straight.......
But Id also tell him thats an awesome fish, not just for a pond but any lake in general. He should be proud of it for sure! So congrats to him on that!

I would have to reluctantly agree with Sinkey, I'm sitting here looking at a 14.19 I caught at Fork and the fish the kid is holding up frankly doesn't come close. Having said that it's an awesome fish and one to be proud of and congrats on releasing it. Also I want to wish him the best on his college career. Best of everything young man. thumb

I know what a 28"-29" Bass looks like because I caught one in June several years ago. Mine weighed in at 10.50lbs and looked plenty healthy so those charts don't mean squat to me. One thing I can tell you is that is NOT a 29" Bass and it is NOT 14 pounds. I don't call BS too often on weights posted here because pics can be deceiving, but in this case I feel very comfortable calling BS. But hey......fish stories are fun so who am I to criticize the kids catch. Nice fish!
