I was shopping and came across the Lowrance Hook 7 Mid/High DownScan unit at Academy .

I was surprised at the price point for a 7 inch GPS combo unit. Anyone got any insight or experience with this particular unit? I'm planning on fishing in the bay and on the lake.

I have 2 hook 7's and love them. I have one with downscan and 2d only and another with GPS and side imaging and love them both. Can't beat them for the money if you ask me.

Look at the Garmin 7SV or the Humminbird 7SI Both are great and load fast. You get the Down Imaging with it too but it gives you the option for the Side Imaging. This is a great help once you learn how to use it. That is my $.02.. Good luck

I have the Hook 2 7 inch with Tripleshot (Down Imagine,Side Image, and Traditional) and I absolutely love.Very easy to use no confusing screens and the price was unbeatable. It also has GPS.

What is the difference in the maps? I see some have NAV+ charts, inland charts, and track plotter.

Did they improve start up time on the Hook2 series? I have a Hook 5 (now on my wifes kayak) and it takes much longer to start up than the Humminbird on my yak.

Hook 2 start up time is much quicker than the original Hook series.

Lowrance Hook 7 at Academy, looking at the link of the unit, I don't see a
"mark" or "waypoint" button. To me that's very important to be able to hit it
immediately, just don't see one..?? coolio

Not a dedicated Mark button, but the menu button gets you there quickly. And because you have track back capability, you can scroll the cursor over the sonar history to the image of interest and mark it.

Ian do not understand why you would think low ,or mid range is expected to produce
top line shots.I have both, and I think the h 7 is a good tool for the price..
