Yes the older Yamaha including hpdi are comparable to Cooter Brown

My 07 would go thru a gallon of oil in a few trips

... I went from the OX66 to the Merc Optimax
I would gladly trade the poor fuel consumption for the reliability of the OX66.

My OX66 225 VMax loves gas and oil if I leave my foot in it. But, I've had it since 1999 and it is still running strong.

Ditto. Run it like you stole it, it guzzles. Run it a little less, it's not too bad.

One of the most reliable engines ever made IMO... you can get decent mileage if you keep your foot out of it.

Mine likes oil, gas and abuse. As did my carb'd one before it. Wouldn't trade it they just run.

Varies from boat to boat, in my ZX225 about mid trim and 45-55 mph is the sweet spot for fuel mileage. I never really paid attention to the RPM while running those speeds, will have to look at that Wednesday when I hit the lake.

Oh yes the OX66 225 loves both gas and oil, however with proper maintenance
it's just about bullet proof. A most reliable motor.

Also i'd guess 55 is about 5k rpm on my 250. I just play it by ear. A lot of trim, minimal speed without bobbing in and out of pad I assume is where I get the best fuel eco. I usually just don't worry about it lol. It ain't gonna be good either way

That's about my sweet spot usually around 50 MPH is where I get best MPG but mine gets little over 2 miles to the gallon at WOT running 5200-5400 RPMs so usually on tournament day I just let her rip hahaha I have never gotten close to running out of gas in tournament even when we ran 80+ miles in a day.
