I’m taking the kids to Fayette in a couple weeks and was wandering where to go for some bluegill/sunfish action. I’ve fished the lake before for bass but I know nothing about where and how to fish for sunfish. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hit the timber and move around a lot until you find them. My largest was 1 lb 9 oz. 8 were over 1 lb.

CricketHook….Do you catch these monsters all year long, or is it seasonal ?

Mostly after April. Sometimes beginning in April but this year was colder than normal. You can find the red ear bunched up through mid to late August. Usually around the first of July you can find them bunched up and fill an ice chest with slabs.

CricketHook...I have another question for you. I looks like you use a float...How deep do you set it when searching for these guys ? All the ones I have caught from Fayette, I was fishing Carolina rig on the bottom. What is the advantage of using a float ? And I agree...Once u find one, there seems to be a pot full...Thanks in advance...

I run a Thill slip bobber with a rubber bobber stop on a spinning rod (Lews Wally marshal crappie rod). Set it about 8-10 inches above bottom. It’s easy to adjust than a snap float and easier to cast. Fayetteville has black goop on the bottom in most areas. I will also use a drop shot rig. Palomar knot a long shank cricket hook with a 8-10 inch tag end to then add a 1/4 oz or less bell sinker. I use meal worms that I buy in bulk. Much cleaner than worms and cheaper too. I can buy 1,000 for about $20. They keep in the fridge for several months. You will be amazed how many more fish you will catch on a drop shot rig. You gotta get the bait in their face without loading up on bottom slime. 8lb braid is the best with a tiny spot swivel and about 2-3 ft of mono.
