How often do you re-tie your baits on? You just fish all day or cut it lose and re-tie every so may cast?

I retie several times during the day. Salt Cedars are extremely hard on fishing line.

Feel and look for nicks, abrasions, and other line defects regularly
If you detect any, retie

On average, if I�m fishing thick timber with the same set up, I�ll retie once every 3hrs

I retie anytime I feel a nick plus 1-2 extra times a day. You never know when a giant will bite.

I retie when my line gets knicked up or I caught quite a few. Some times I won�t retie for couple trips depending on what I�m using

I retie usually after I break off a fish..LOL If I have caught several and I see that the line is frayed from it dragging over the mouth of the fish I retie then also.

I check for line damage and retie if I find any damage or always after catching a big fish, say 6+. Maybe superstitious but that's what I do. For braid, I retie much less frequently but will if I see fraying.

usually retie after a big fish too......because my hooks usually swimming around still in the fish.

I wish I would have retied my before I tossed out that whacky rig this evening. I missed a big blow up on a frog and did the "cool" thing and tossed it out real quick.....well.....it swam off with it. The battle lasted about 5 minutes and boink! Off she went.

If I see enough damage to think it will break. Sometimes i dont then either lol. You would be amazed at what 20lb line will handle

What is interesting is how extremely developed our tactile or sense of touch is.

Most people when they reach for a single sheet of paper from a ream can actually "feel" the difference if they inadvertently pick up two pieces instead of one Paper is often around 2/1000ths of an inch thick.

For braid, the signs will be more visual; but, for mono or fluoro you will be able to feel the tiniest of imperfections.

For mono, the line will weaken and so will its knots after fishing with it.

At the bare minimum, I'd think all terminal and junction knots should be tied before each time out. Many don't even do this.

If you are fishing soft plastics, you may need to retie after each fish. Most fish over 2# will have the bait in their mouths deep enough their teeth will fray your line slightly. Always look closely at the line near the knot after each fish.

You may not need to retie after a fish on a crank or a moving bait if the fish didn't get into the brush as you were playing it. If the fish had the bait deep in its mouth, again look closely at the line just above the knot.

I retie a lot. Once you become proficient at tying the palomar knot you can tie it so fast it is crazy not to. Unless I am fishing heavy 50-65 braid, I will retie after nearly every fish.

sometimes will cut a foot or so of line off as well, you'd be amazed at what catching them around rocks in South Texas will do to the upper end of the line.

Not nearly enough, I like to give the fish a sporting chance lol.

Never, it's like turn signals, a sign of weakness.

Whenever I feel a rough spot, go another 2 feet and cut.
