Got up early because I'm sore (spent several hours yesterday doing heavy yardwork, moving paving stones). Have my coffee, just sitting out on the swing in the front yard watching the birds, squirels, etc do their thing ... and these ducks came flying down the street at about 10-15 feet above ground level. It was the craziest thing, I saw them come around the bend and fly almost directly over the centerline of the street all the way down to Mill street. (I'm assuming that they continued directly towards the lake on the other side of the park).

A few minutes later, a couple more ducks come along on the same path (at least I think it was different ducks). They landed on my neighbors roof for a minute, looked around as if to get their bearings, and then headed towards the lake as well.

Is this a normal thing for ducks to do? Do they have little GPS units to help them find the right street?

We live near a pond but the ducks fly to our neighborhood pools every morning.

I've had at least 10 mallard duck hatchings in our pool area. They come in and make nests in our planters and lay eggs. Then you're kinda stuck with the ducks till they leave.

We are about 1000 ft. from the shoreline of Ray Hubbard. We see ducks often on our streets walking through peoples yards. It is almost always a male and female couple. Mr. and Mrs. Duck. Saw them yesterday as a matter of fact.

We have a lot of ducks that cross back and forth from the pond at the park to the yards across the street.

Last time running to PB, I had to jump on the brakes just past Waxahatchie to avoid mama and a dozen or so ducklings crossing 287. I got past, looked back, and traffic was stopped. I hope they made it.

I don't know much about them city and neighborhood suburban ducks but I'll sit out on my deck in the evenings and watch the woodies fly over and they are always going the same way, never any variance. In the winter they pick up some extra company from the migratory populations. I'm sure they're heading for a large beaver pond (about 6-10 acres) about a mile from my place as the duck flies.

I like fried wood duck breast cut in strips, rolled in flour and pan fried. Make a milk and flour white gravy in the drippings.
