When I become a multi-billionaire I am going to buy a retired Navy PT boat and drive it around on area lakes (don't worry about how I am going to launch it, this is my fantasy. Get your own if you want to question anything). I'll make it a special point to drive it right beside every wakeboard boat I see.

Don't like it? Hey, the lake belongs to all of us and this is how I get my fun.

We were fishing a tournament on Athens today. I was idling around a point when a big pleasure boat headed straight for us. He finally veered off, but his wake basically swamped my 18'6" Skeeter. Water washed completely over the front deck and was deep enough that both of us got our shoes soaked in the bottom of the boat.

How is that okay?

I come completely unglued when this happens. I can usually stay pretty calm, but a wake boat going back and forth next to me really tests my self control. One of my buddies told me he was pretty sure I was about to turn green, rip the trolling motor off my boat, and punt this guy across the lake with it. Some of them are so oblivious and wreckless.

I have battled huge waves from wind and gotten not much more than just a spraying of water come into my Champion. The only thing that has ever gotten the inside of my boat soaked is those stupid wake boats. IMO the biggest problem with them is they are usually full of really young people drinking and partying and they have no clue what they are doing to others. Pretty much like 75% of the other boaters you find on the lake but their boat makes it so much worse. I often wonder where all the game wardens are. I never see them on any of the lakes that I go to. Even the police have boats out there in the marina but they are never on the water enforcing anything.

I have the next 2 days off and really want to go fishing but I just can't make myself go out with all of the idiots that i know will be out there. I was really hoping for rain in the forecast.

I was on Athens this morning those boats were killing me. Athens is too small for all that mess.

Athens is a small pond with a jon boat next to what you see on PK and Texoma. They got some boats on those lakes you can drive across the Atlantic in and they love to wake bass boats. Made the mistake ( big mistake ) of going to PK on a Saturday about a month ago. They taught me a lesson.

I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I get an allowance every month. I have PU truck and a bass boat, I am blessed.

I seldom fish on weekends and never on holidays so I have very little experience with wake boats. I got a wild hair yesterday and decided to go fishing. Had I been in a john boat I probably would have had to swim back to the boat ramp. I was on fish but every time a wake boat came by I had to spin the bow around or take water over the stern. I thought it was strange when launching my boat that the game wardens were sitting in their small boat tied to the dock...now I know why.

Been happening on metro-mess lakes for over a decade. Welcome to the fun.

Enjoy the music too. Everyone knows that music adds to the wakeboarding experience. #Sharing.

"Generally speaking, wakeboard specific boats are V-drive boats. This means they are an inboard boat with the engine placed backwards in the rear of the boat. This is done to keep more weight in the back of the boat and make the wake larger. Some wakeboard specific boat models are direct drive boats where the engine is in the middle of the boat. Most wakeboard boats will have several features that help to create large wakes. These include ballast, hydrofoil, and hull technology. Ballast is a simple term for weight. When wakeboard boats have ballast tanks, it means that they have room for extra weight to weigh the boat down for larger wakes. For example. If the rider is surfing on the starboard side of the stern. Then you want to activate the starboard ballast in order to give the rider a surf-able wave. All these key features would not be anything if it was not for cruise control. Cruise control innovated wake boarding. Throttles on v drive boats are extremely sensitive and it is hard to get to the desired speed of the rider. When cruise control is set the driver can push the throttle all the way down and the boat will not go any faster than the desired speed. It locks the engine in at that rpm. Cruise control is also very safe because when pulling a rider there is a lot to have to worry about. Cruise control minuses one less worry allowing for a fun wakeboard run."

I live on Lake Travis but only fish during the week. And my part of the lake is northwest of main basin and is narrower than the main lake body, and less populated than down south where the party boats REALLY get crazy. Two wake boats passing each other in opposite directions, mixed with skiers and cigarette boats, makes for such confused water that anyone in a measly little bass boat doesn't stand a chance. Jon boat? Fuggedaboudit! You're toast before you leave the marina.

That's another rant: Wake boats driving within a few yards of the "slow - no wake" bouys around the mouths of coves and boat docks.

I know folks with wake boats have just as much right on the water as anyone else, however, wouldn't they be liable for any damage that their wake caused? hmmm
