Hit Cally today for the 1st time in 25 yrs. It still smells like dead fish everywhere, & I have never seen so many snakes in one day ever. Anyway, got there at daybreak & fished til 11:30. Water temp 88 when arrived & 92 when I left. Started out fishing outside of the wall...nada. Moved around and fished rocks for a few hours & got 6 reds, 5 small Rios & one bluegill that looked like it had been hit by redfish(tore up). Finished up fishing reeds & got 2 small bluegill & 1 nice red ear. I think if I had stared early fishing the reeds would have had better luck on sunfish. The reds, however were a blast to catch on ultra light. Got 3 reds on night crawlers & 3 on a smelt imitation thing u can see in photo...All fish 2-6 ft deep...

Nice Cally report Vogey. I have not fished Cally this year yet. I plan on fishing it some during the fall! I have also had pretty good results during the winter! thumb

Nice report and fish Vogey. Yes Sir Cally is a "run-down lake"! I am not a local and have only known the lake for about six years. During this time I have noticed the lake getting more trashed and not being maintained. The company managing the lake is not doing a good job at all! It's a shame. The first two years I fished Cally it was a good place. It still holds some BIG sunfish but needs some cleaning up and better management. Just my two cents. soap

As always nice report and fish Vogey! At one point years ago Cally was one heck of a Striped Bass Lake. It also had a good population of Large Mouth Bass. Power Plants went into over drive causing the water temperatures to get extremely "HOT" and thus the fishing has been going down hill ever since. The lake has also been poorly managed over the last several years and it shows. Cally still holds some nice catfish, fresh water Reds, and some super big sunfish. Hopefully lake management will start doing it's job and maintain that lake.

Yep...I fished Calaveras a lot back in the 1970s b4 Fayette opened. It was a great bass lake. Attached is a photo of my personal best outa there. We also aught good numbers of hybrid stripers. I was hoping for better numbers of big sunfish, but only got one. Will maybe try later in the year when the water temp cools down. I have a feeling there are plenty there hiding in the massive reed beds

Totally Agree! Cally has seen it's better days for sure. I have only fished that lake for about seven years now and it has been going down hill each year! taz
